Destiny 2 Lightfall has added all kinds of new activities for players to interact with, and whilst most of them are fairly difficult, they are all fun and rewarding. Terminal Overloads are brand-spanking new Public Events that crop up in Neomuna and can be accessed simply by going to the correct location or using your Map to matchmake into an event in progress from anywhere in the Sol System.
Terminal Overloads are an escalating series of challenges that force players to work against the clock to complete objectives. These range from killing specific targets, to holding ground, and even fighting giant bosses. They are hectic in the best way, and the rewards for completing them are quite good. Players will likely notice a mysterious second chest that spawns every time you complete a Terminal Overload – one you cannot open. This guide covers how you crack them open.

Terminal Overload Chests are the real reward for completing a Terminal Overload event. These drop incredibly hard-to-find Strand weapons, and if you want to make the most of your Lightfall experience, getting your hands on these weapons is going to be a priority. Not only that, but you can upgrade these chests by levelling up your Reputation with Nimbus. This will guarantee a Terminal Overload weapon – which is very nice.
The catch is that these chests are locked, and you aren’t going to be able to crack them open for several hours. As a result, we recommend avoiding this event entirely – for now.
