It’s not exactly a new Back to the Future, but a new car from the DeLorean Motor Company is as good news as any fan of the franchise can get nowadays, with the impending revival of one of history’s most iconic vehicles taking a definitive trip to an electric future.
The Alpha 5 electric vehicle (EV) is the latest product from DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC, the actual name of the company that took over the brand of the defunct DMC that manufactured Dr. Emmet Brown's signature ride from 1981 to 1982, and also the new business’ first vehicle made from scratch. That is because for decades the new Texas-based DMC has mainly dedicated itself to offering servicing, restoration, and sale of replacement parts for the cult classic that is the DeLorean, long after Back to the Future 3 came out, something bound to change with its rebrand as a full-on EV manufacturer.

Enter the 2022’s DeLorean, actually named the Alpha 5 electric vehicle but sporting the same gull-wing style doors that made the Back to the Future car so famous during the '80s. It also has a new electric motor that can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.99 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph, according to The Verge. To enter the electric car revolution, the new DeLorean sports a 100kWh battery that gives the vehicle a range of approximately 300 miles before needing a recharge, all wrapped up in a modern silhouette crafted by DMC and Italdesign, the same firm that helped conceive the original 1981 DMC-12.
