As one of the most popular sidescrolling roguelites on the market, Dead Cells has had years' worth of post-launch content that has kept players coming back for more over and over again. This, it would seem, is bound to continue for the foreseeable future, according to the developer's latest blog post on Steam.
Namely, Dead Cells developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire just announced that the game is set to receive content throughout all of 2022. Judging by the context of the announcement and the features on show, said content is seemingly going to be free for all players, but it's particularly noteworthy that much of it is still under a veil of secrecy. The only new revealed item is the long-awaited Panchaku weapon, and the rest is going to be a «surprise,» according to the announcement.

According to the Dead Cells 2022 content roadmap, the game will first receive its Panchaku update sometime this summer. In the fall, the developers plan to release a special Boss Rush mode for the game, while the winter update is the first secret element of the roadmap. The final section is perhaps the most surprising one yet and is likely motivated by Dead Cells' stellar lifetime sales figures. The announcement says that 2023 will be «the most exciting year in Dead Cells' history,» which could mean a lot of different things at this time.
It is of course worth pointing out that Dead Cells has received holiday themed content before, and it's likely that the winter update will be somewhat similar to what has already been seen. Whatever plans Motion Twin and Evil Empire might have for 2023, the studios are likely to announce more information about them as the end of 2022 draws
