No, this does not appear to be a joke — a trademark filed by Behaviour Interactive suggests the crew is working on a Dead by Daylight dating sim. The slasher genre from which the development team derived Dead by Daylight's killer premise runs rampant with love connections turned deadly. It stands to reason, then, that the horror game could branch out to new and exciting horizons.
Behaviour Interactive originally launched Dead by Daylight on PC in 2016, then ported the asymmetrical multiplayer experience to PS4 and Xbox One at a later date. It's since migrated to several other platforms as well, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, mobile devices included. As such, players on most modern platforms can join the chaos, assuming the role of either a Killer hunting their prey or a Survivor hoping to make it to sunrise. Notably, brand crossovers have kept things interesting over the years, with Dead by Daylight's introduction of a Ringu Killer constituting the most recent of such high-profile collaborations. But it seems the horror IP has yet to reach its full potential.

As relayed by Dead by Daylight-dedicated Twitter account DBDLeaks (via Eurogamer), Behaviour Interactive recently filed a trademark for the following title: Hooked On You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim. The Canadian-based company filed the trademark just last week. Of course, the documentation doesn't offer much in the way of concrete information, but its existence suggests a Dead by Daylight-branded dating simulator could indeed come to market one day.
