The upcoming superhero series is slated to serve as an important chapter in the DCU franchise as it will focus on the Green Lantern Corps from the comics. It will be part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and feature Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. The cast also features Poorna Jagannathan. In a recent interview, she disclosed that production will start sooner than what many fans might have expected, teasing the release date window in the process.
Poorna Jagannathan revealed in a new interview with Collider that they would start camera testing on Tuesday, January 28. Reflecting on the series, Jagannathan declared, “This is the first script that I’ve read that I understand why there’s an NDA. Everything is so insane. It is the best writing that I have ever read.”
The Never Have I Ever actress explained that she didn’t know “anything about sci-fi” and didn’t “care.” However, the Lanterns script made her feel at home. “This script makes sci-fi seem like my world. It makes it so accessible to me,” she said. “I understand everything about this world even though I don’t understand this world. So it’s the best sci-fi script I’ve ever read,” she added.
Notably, Lanterns revolves around Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a mystery on Earth. The cast of Lanterns will also include Garret Dillahunt, and Kelly Macdonald in various roles. Recently, Banshee actor Ulrich Thomsen joined the cast as Sinestro.
Lanterns will reportedly have eight episodes, which means the show needs to spend a considerable time in production. Given this will be part of the superhero franchise, it will likely spend a significant amount of time in post-production as well. Accordingly, the series could potentially get a 2026 release date.
