Yesterday, Nintendo surprised us with the Portal: Companion Collection, a bundle of both Portal 1 and Portal 2 that’s been ported to the Nintendo Switch. The games are available now for an extremely reasonable price, so if you haven’t played Valve’s beloved puzzle games, now’s the best time.
But for longtime Portal fans, the Portal: Companion Collection wasn’t just a new platform to play Portal on. As noted by YouTuber Ossy Flawol (via GamesRadar), the Portal: Companion Collection came with a treasure trove of cut content, unreleased beta levels, and development tools that fans have never seen before.

Dataminers have only spent a day picking apart the new Portal release, but they’ve already found nine unreleased demo maps. Flawol said that this is the first time we’ve ever seen Portal 2 beta content as Valve is notoriously stingy with its pre-release data. Portal 1’s test maps only leaked when Nvidia ported the game to the Nvidia Shield, and since Nvidia also handled the Switch port, we have the video card maker to thank for these new Portal 2 beta maps.
A lot of the maps are test versions of the levels that eventually made it into the finished game. Some test Portal 2’s mechanics, while others offer different endings or introductions. Outro_map offers a different take on Portal 2’s co-op ending, while devtest_map and fizzler_test seem to let the developers test out various tools and in-game mechanics.
