A Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fan has posted a stunning pixel art rendition of Link online, showing the hero of Hyrule standing on one of the game's many cliffs at sunset. The sight of pixel fan art hearkens back to a classic era of gaming, making it a good source of nostalgia for many video game fans.
While it is true that many new games still use pixel art for their graphics today, these are mostly indie titles also looking to evoke that same feeling of nostalgia. Most long-running gaming franchises, including The Legend of Zelda, have long since turned to more modern, 3D styles instead. Link hasn't been seen in proper pixel format for a mainline Zelda game since 2004's The Minish Cap, although a sleek version of the style was used for the 2019 spin-off game Candence of Hyrule. Of course, the franchise's evolving art style has had its detractors over the years. This even includes series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who disliked Toon Link and the rest of Wind Waker's cel-shaded world for being so unrealistic.

Now one fan has taken the latest title in the Legend of Zelda series and given it a classic pixel art twist. Twitter artist black_ilil has received over 120K likes in just a single day for an animated Link straight from Breath of the Wild. Dressed in his blue Champion's Tunic and wielding a sword and shield (a Traveller's Shield, to be more precise), Link stands on a cliff overlooking part of Hyrule. In the distance, a brilliant golden sunset lights the land and reflects off a winding river. This BOTW fan art is beautiful, making it easy to see how it has received so much attention.
