Although Darth Vader’s path as a villain ended with his tragic redemption and sacrifice, one version of his story saw him survive as a Darth Vader dressed in white, showcasing his return to the Jedi. Theformer Anakin Skywalker was supposedly «murdered» when he became Darth Vader, with his memory living on in his few surviving friends and his son Luke. When Vader rebelled against Emperor Palpatine, it was a decision that cost him his life as he died in his son's arms. In Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi, an alternate version of the 1983 film with small yet significant differences throughout the storyline sees Vader survive the final battle on the Death Star, later adorned in a white version of his signature armor.
In the 2003 story by Adam Gallardo and Ryan Benjamin, the mission to rescue Han Solo goes awry resulting in Boba Fett’s escape and C-3PO’s destruction. The search for Han on Tatooine also prevents Luke from being at Dagobah when Yoda passes away. Sensing Yoda’s death, he travels to the planet where he meets with Obi-Wan and Yoda’s spirits who confirm Vader is his father and Leia is his sister. While Leia and the others successfully retrieve Han, the carbonite exposure and damage from the battle leaves him blind and Luke is captured outside of Dagobah instead of on Endor. While the Rebels prepare for their attack on the second Death Star, Leia defies orders and leaves to go help Luke, who is the prisoner of both Vader and Palpatine. Luke also leaves a recorded message for her, revealing the truth about their relationship. Despite sneaking onto the Death Star, Leia is eventually captured as the Battle of Endor begins.
