Prior to the launch of Elden Ring, FromSoftware was facing a massive controversy. It was discovered that the multiplayer technology used for Dark Souls games on PC included a significant vulnerability that put players' at risk. Bandai Namco then made a consequential decision to shut down all multiplayer servers for Dark Souls,Dark Souls 2, andDark Souls 3. Dark Souls fans have been waiting for news about the servers' return since and have now received an official update.
FromSoftware has proffered a statement to PC Gamer regarding the status of the Dark Souls games' multiplayer servers. The statement confirms that the company is currently working on «restoring» the multiplayer servers for all Dark Souls games on PC. Unfortunately, it isn't at a point where FromSoftware was willing to share information about a schedule, but Dark Souls players can at least rest easy knowing that the issue is actively being worked on.

While no dates were shared regarding the return of theDark Souls multiplayer servers, FromSoftware did describe what will happen when the unannounced date arrives. It explains that it plans to restore multiplayer servers «progressively,» which likely means that it will reimplement multiplayer game by game. This will allow FromSoftware to fully evaluate the improvements it made to server security before expanding to the next game. It will, however, mean that the server downtime is going to be extended indefinitely.
Lastly, FromSoftware explains that it will provide further information regarding its plans to bring back the Dark Souls multiplayer servers «as soon as the restoration schedule is finalized.» Until then, the company asks fans of Dark Souls to remain
