Daredevil And Penguin Series Hit By WGA Strike, Face Production Delays

Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again and the Batman spinoff Penguin are currently facing production delays as a result of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, according to Deadline sources.

Daredevil, based in New York, has experienced regular picketing from WGA East writers outside its production base at Silvercup East. This has led to multiple shutdowns, most recently on June 12. Earlier this week, members of Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 refused to cross the picket line, resulting in a suspension of production for the remainder of the week.

Similarly, the Batman spinoff Penguin, produced by Matt Reeves, has also faced picketers from the WGA East.

Daredevil: Born Again, a highly anticipated Disney+ series, is currently in the midst of an 18-episode shoot. The production, which began three months ago, is expected to last eight months. However, due to the strike, the show's writers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord, are unable to provide their services on set. The new season focuses on the character of Daredevil, portrayed by Charlie Cox, who is known as Matt Murdock, a lawyer by day and a crimefighter by night. Vince D'Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, a prominent mob boss.

Meanwhile, the eight-episode drama Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell reprising his role as the Batman villain, and starring Cristin Milioti as the female lead Sofia Falcone, has also been impacted by the strike. The series is a collaboration between Warner Bros Television and DC Studios.

As the WGA strike continues, the fate of both Daredevil: Born Again and Penguin remains uncertain, with production on hold until the strike reaches a resolution.
