Ambitious sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 25 million copies to date.
That's according to developer CD Projekt, whose CEO Adam Kiciński told investors that the game had hit this sales milestone approaching three years after its original release date. The chief exec said that it took the company's previous game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, four-and-a-half years to hit that level of sales.
“The phenomenal Witcher 3 achieved a similar level in 4.5 years and here [in Cyberpunk’s case], a little bit over two years [since its release], so we are selling far faster than we were selling the Witcher game,” he said, as reported by VGC.
Furthermore, according the CD Projekt's CFO Piotr Nielubowicz, Cyberpunk 2077's recently-released first and only DLC Phantom Liberty has sold three million copies in its first week on sale. The game was released on October 26th. 68 per cent of that three million figure were on PC, with ten per cent on GOG, while 20 per cent were on PlayStation 5 and 13 per cent on Xbox Series X and S.
"To contextualise this, we estimated how many gamers now have the main game on PC or the new consoles—all the platforms that allow to you play it—and it’s 20 million," Nielubowicz said.
“20 million players who either have the main game or have updated the old-gen version to the new-gen version. So, 15% of all the gamers within one week bought the expansion.
“This is a phenomenal result and this is just the beginning – the sales keep on climbing.”
