The very first boss in just about any game is likely to be a cakewalk. These are often the culmination of a tutorial stage, level, or chapter, and tend to be wet-noodles compared to practically every other foe. Crystar is no different in this regard, and Epicurean is the name of the Revenant on your soon-to-be-dead list.

Epicurean is the dastardly so-and-so who initially separated Rei from her sister Mirai, and essentially set the game’s plot into motion. The speed at which you dispatch her is heavily linked to the difficulty you play on, but the general rules for downing her don’t change too much. Her move-set remains fairly basic.
When it comes to Epicurean’s attack pattern, it’s quite simple - she only has one attack. This fight is designed to teach you how to recognize wind-up animations and use that knowledge to execute dodge-dashes before returning to the fray once the coast is clear.
Epicurean will move towards Rei, lift her right arm (your left), and take a meaty swing. You have plenty of time to dodge this attack, so the moment you see Epicurean prepare her swing, move away. Remember that Crystar has some intentional (and some unintentional) input delay. Don’t dally in the danger zone for too long, otherwise, you will be punished.
Providing you have been killing most of the enemies in each chapter, Rei should be at, or around, Level Nine. By this point, Rei should have access to several Skills. The skill you want to be focusing on, however, is Feather’s Edge.
