Skills in action-based JRPGs are the oil that keeps the machine churning. They alone are the salve that purifies mundanity and breathes new life into what could have been a dreadfully dreary experience. They define characters, they deal loads of damage, and they look darn cool to boot.

Crystar has four playable characters, and each character comes with a bevy of skills to unlock as you play the game. Skills can be monstrously powerful, so want to use them whenever you can. When you want something dead, you whip out a skill and watch as life-bars quickly whittle away to nothing.
Skills in Crystar are unlocked by leveling up your character. You will gain a skill every 5-10 levels, and you will gain them up until around level 70. Whilst every character has a unique list of skills, not every skill in a given list is unique. There are a lot of upgraded variants of previous skills, and these functionally replace their weaker counterparts.
All Skills in Crystar are divided into Arts and Spells. The only difference between them is that Arts scale off of Physical Attack, and Spells scale off of Magic Attack. Build your characters accordingly to maximize Skill damage.
Rei is your go-to melee beatstick. She has great stats, fantastic scalings, and a skill list that is varied and wonderful. If you don’t know who is best for any given scenario, you can’t go wrong with throwing Rei into the mix.
Unfortunately, Kokoro is mostly a wasted character slot. Her value comes from her massive Physical Attack scaling and high HP stat.
