An undisclosed number of employees are being made redundant at Embracer Groups' Cryptic Studios.
Word that staff at the developer were facing job cuts emerged on social media, with narrative director Winter Mullenix posting that her time had ended at the Star Trek Online developer "due to a reduction in workforce".
In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, Embracer did not confirm how many people were losing their jobs but did say that work on Star Trek Online would be moving to DECA Games, another subsidiary of Embracer.
"As part of the Embracer Group’s comprehensive restructuring program, Cryptic Studios will now operate under DECA Games," they said. "In addition to this organizational change, our commitment to Embracer’s directive to reduce costs requires us to undertake difficult personnel changes, including separating from some team members.
"Cryptic Studios will provide job assistance and support those impacted to smooth this transition. Cryptic remains dedicated to supporting its cornerstone free-to-play games and the communities behind them."
Embracer is currently closing down studios and projects, as well as cutting jobs, following the company's failure to land a $2 billion deal, reportedly from Saudi Arabia.
