CM Punk has made a career out of speaking his mind, and the AEW star's recent comments on Vince McMahon and WWE's culture fall right in line with that. McMahon has been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the last several months and shocked the wrestling world by retiring on July 22. Triple H has since taken over as head of talent relations and creative, while Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan are co-CEOs.
After taking seven years off away from the ring, Punk returned to a raucous ovation last August. AEW was patient in building him towards contending for the World Championship, and he finally won that prize at Double Or Nothing. He promptly injured his foot, leading to a tournament to crown an interim World Champion, which Jon Moxley won at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

On the Absolute Geek podcast, Punk was asked about the recent shakeup in WWE and had some harsh words for the company. "You think because [McMahon] tweeted that 'I'm retired' that he's not going to be hands-on? I don't think the structure there… I don't think the culture there changes at all. I think it is what it is." Turns out, that was just Punk clearing his throat. "People are going to be real f***ing mad about this, but f*** it. Mercedes [Banks] and Trinity [Naomi] leave, and they announce on SmackDown that 'Gosh darn, we're so disappointed in them, they really let our fans down.' Brock splits, comes back obviously, I think he worked the show [SmackDown], but where was Michael Cole saying 'Man, Brock Lesnar really let these fans down.'" Punk is referring to Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on the May 16 edition of Monday Night Raw, while Lesnar allegedly bailed on the July
