Are you a gamer looking to relocate? Time2Play(Opens in a new window) has compiled a list of what it says are the best and worst cities for gamers in the US and Canada—so book that moving van before the rush starts.
In case you're wondering whether there's a methodology to this madness, Time2Play compared the average cost of living(Opens in a new window), internet speeds, the price of pizza, and the number of GameStop and Best Buy locations in the 50 most populated cities to determine the perfect gaming oases.
At the top of the list is Raleigh, North Carolina. The city scored a 65.08 on the cost-of-living index (the index goes from zero to Bermuda at 145.98), averages connections speeds of 85Mbps, and hosts 2.98 GameStop locations and 1.49 Best Buy locations for every 100,000 residents. You can also get a pepperoni pizza there for about $7.58.
Kansas City, Missouri, ranks second with a 65.56 rating on cost of living, 80Mbps on average, and 3.34 GameStop and 1.18 Best Buy locations per 100,000 residents. The $8.77 cost of pizza may have ultimately prevented the city from taking the crown.
Third overall is Cleveland, Ohio, because it's more expensive (72.64) and the internet is worse (47Mbps). The city has a lot of GameStop (4.08) and Best Buy (1.90) locations, and the pizza costs just $6.52 there, but that's not enough to top the rankings.
Rounding out the top 10 are Baltimore, Detroit, Atlanta, Charlotte, Fresno, Louisville, and Milwaukee. If you're wondering where Canada comes in, you have to go to the end of the list. Montreal ranks 43rd, Vancouver is 45th, Toronto is 47th, Calgary is 48th, and Edmonton is 49th.
So what cities should gamers avoid? Ranking 50th overall is New York City, with a score of 100 on the cost
