At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, Activision revealed gameplay for its upcoming first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The new video showed off the very first level of Modern Warfare 3, dubbed Operation 627. The action begins in the Kostovian sea, where Alpha Team assaults an enemy compound at night. Yes, we're going back to Verdansk, the setting of the original Warzone. Using night vision goggles, the player sneaks deeper into the compound. Predictably, a big explosion marks the start of combat. Via tunnels, the team delve ever deeper. A door breach marks the tantalising end of the gameplay trailer.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was officially announced via a teaser trailer after several leaks appeared online earlier this month. The full reveal event, however, occurred last week inside the free-to-play title Call of Duty: Warzone. During the event, Activision fully took the wraps off Modern Warfare 3, billing it as a "direct sequel" to 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and revealing details about its zombies and a campaign that focuses on player choice.
Activision previously confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will see the return of proper slide canceling and bringing back the classic minimap. It's walking back many of the changes introduced in 2022's Modern Warfare 2, and a lot of fans seem just fine with that.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
