California Man Accused of Stealing Thousands of Dollars Worth of Pokemon Cards

One of the impressive things about the Pokemon series is its enormous scope. As the world’s largest media franchise, its iconic pocket monsters have featured in games and anime to plushies that resemble Squishmallows. In addition, the series has become famous for its collectible card game called Pokemon TCG.

Unfortunately, this popularity has had some unfortunate side effects for aspiring card collectors. Over the past couple of years, the prices of many of these cards on the resale market have risen substantially causing some cards to be valued for hundreds of dollars and in some cases even more. Recently, one card collector took their passion for Pokemon TCG too far and got in trouble with the law in the process.

First reported in an article from The Signal on April 13, 2022, it was revealed that a man had stolen Pokemon cards from a store. Entering a card shop known as SCV Card Connection on Wednesday in Newhall, California, the man was able to rob the store, managing to leave with over $2,000 of Pokemon TCG cards in his possession. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries. In addition, the article noted that the man did not use a firearm.

Following the robbery, the SCV Card Connection notified the authorities, and deputies from the local police department made it to the store around noon. One person from the department named Deputy Natalie Arriaga commented on the robbery. “On April 13 at approximately 11:45 a.m., a call for service was received regarding a male white adult reportedly (stealing) Pokemon cards,” she said.
