Reportedly, the development of Electronic Arts' rumored Fight Night reboot has been paused for EA Sports UFC 5. VGC sources familiar with EA's operations alleged late last year that the publisher planned on reviving its long-dormant Fight Night franchise. Apparently, such a revival will come after EA Sports wraps up production on its next UFC-branded fighting game, though the publisher itself has yet to confirm as much.
The acclaimed Fight Night series dominated the world of boxing video games for a short period of time from 2004 to 2011. Electronic Arts stepped into the ring with Fight Night 2004, offering up a successor to its older boxing franchise — Knockout Kings. Two Fight Night sequels launched in succession the following two years, with the series taking a brief hiatus before returning in 2009 for the advent of Fight Night Round 4. The fifth and final installment, Fight Night Championship, hit store shelves in 2011. From the outside looking in, it seems as though EA's acquisition of UFC publishing rights essentially ensured EA development teams had no time to resurrect the Fight Night brand.
