How many Crazy Taxi games do you think there are? Go on, guess. Wrong. It's seven. Yep, seven whole Crazy Taxi games, and one came out as recently as 2017. Eight, technically, if you keep the original arcade cabinet and the initial console release separate. Despite this, the series is primarily known for its first two titles, and it’s time for the glory days to come back.
The history of Crazy Taxi is not a storied one. There was Crazy Taxi and Crazy Taxi 2 (the good ones), and we'll deal more with them later. Crazy Taxi 3, subtitled High Roller, was at least a fairly traditional sequel, albeit not a very good one. Three games in and Crazy Taxi gives up. The cult classic of a series deserved at least the dignity of being forgotten, if it could not be salvaged. Instead, its corpse was brought out to dance four more times in a macabre Weekend at Bernie's affair.

Next was Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride, which was the first game ported to Game Boy Advance. That's fine, I guess, but it's not exactly exciting. Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars came next, which is... drumroll... another port! This time it’s the first two games ported to the PSP, which again, feels boring. Next came Crazy Taxi City Rush, which dropped the colons but kept the complete disregard for creativity. It's Temple Run, but in a taxi. Yes, it was as terrible as it sounds. Finally, we had Crazy Taxi Tycoon, also known as Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire. That explored the best, most fun part of being a taxi driver - balancing the books. It also sees you take on an Uber-like company, which is at least a little bit of social commentary on how traditional taxi drivers are being squeezed out by ride-sharing firms who willingly
