Nicola Coughlan teases her return as Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton season 3. The 35-year-old actress, also known for her role as Clare Devlin in the comedy series Derry Girls, has featured in the acclaimed Netflix series since 2020. Though initially perceived as a minor character during season 1, Penelope’s role in Bridgerton has grown steadily more significant after her outing as Lady Whistledown both to the viewership and to her friend Eloise Bridgerton (played by Claudia Jessie) in season 2.
Now, in a recent post to her Instagram Story, Coughlan has teased Penelope’s return as Bridgerton’s new leading lady. Sharing an image of her schedule reading “Fitting with: Penelope”, Coughlan could barely contain her excitement over what season 3 has in store. “You. Are. Going. To. Lose. Your. Mind,” she promised in a caption. Check out the post below:

With filming for Bridgerton season 3 expected to begin sometime this summer, Coughlan’s fitting confirms that cameras will likely begin rolling soon. Created by Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton is based on a series of Regency-era romance novels by Julia Quinn. Though the show initially took a chronological approach, season 3 will reportedly deviate from the established order of the books to instead tackle Quinn’s fourth installment, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Centering on Penelope and her blossoming romance with Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton), the change in narrative order for Bridgerton season 3 could also allow more character development for Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson), whose Cinderella-esque story was originally expected to be the focus of this season.
