The Bravely Default series is known for its hybrid approach to storytelling. For the bulk of each game, the plot progresses in a linear fashion familiar to fans of most JRPGs. It's an epic quest, a forward march into the unknown. After enough hours roll by, however, things take a turn for the stranger. Content must be repeated for full effect, or doorways open up giving players the option to defy destiny and choose a brighter tomorrow.

That's a gross oversimplification, of course, but you didn't come here for a story summary. You're here because Bravely Default 2's Halls of Tribulation are a challenging but rewarding experience that can test the limits of one's tactical prowess (and patience). They're also the place to find answers to lingering narrative questions and gain a greater sense of satisfaction from the game's seventh-chapter resolution.
Perhaps Bravely Default 2 is your first experience with the series. And perhaps no one warned you ahead of time that Square Enix likes to have a bit of a laugh along the way. Your arrival in Chapter 6 begins after the Heroes of Light have challenged Edna at the end of Chapter 5. Taken on its own, that sentence doesn't sound too odd. But when the game seems to conclude with a tragic sacrifice, then effectively rewinds time back on you, that's when you know you're ready for the Halls of Tribulation.
There's one thing you must do, though it stands to reason you'll want to do so regardless — unless you're heartless? — which is to tell Gloria no. Don't let her proceed with this tomfoolery.
