Out of the four original Vault Hunters, Lilith is undoubtedly the most important character in the Borderlands series. While the bromance between Mordecai and Brick is always fun, and Roland’s loss is still being felt by characters like Tiny Tina, Lilith has found herself at the heart of Borderlands narratives from the very beginning. Whether she was fighting the Destroyer in the first game, killing Handsome Jack in the sequel, or interrogating Athena inBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel, she always has something interesting to do.
Borderlands 3 saw Lilith needing to own up to her leadership role, guiding the Crimson Raiders despite the loss of her powers near the start of the game. While she ultimately recovers these abilities, she only gets them back in time to stop Elpis from destroying Pandora, crashing into the moon to prevent the destruction. Though it initially seemed like this act killed her, it turns out that this was not the case, leaving Borderlands 4 with some big questions to answer.

The Murder Mystery Missions from Borderlands 3’s Director’s Cut DLC not only recontexualized the events of the main campaign, but they also confirmed that Lilith is alive. The final line of the DLC sees Ava making it known that the Crimson Raiders have a new mission to find their lost leader, though it is entirely unclear where she went and why she did so.
The final red chest of Borderlands 3 is also something worth noting, as Tannis states that she has no idea where it came from and that Lilith was keeping it secret from the rest of the passengers on the ship.
