The excitement generated by The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, added to the almost complete absence of Boba Fett from the series’ last two episodes, proves that Star Wars' rumored crossover event is its most important project. With the journeys of countless characters intertwining and the constant anticipation for cameos, it has become difficult for the franchise to balance the individual plotlines with the broader universe. The inconsistency in the pacing of The Book of Boba Fett, whose episodes either have been completely character-focused or completely canon-focused, is the perfect example of how difficult it is to find that balance.
Although Star Wars’ cinematic future post-Skywalker Saga is still a mystery, the franchise has found a way to keep its universe expanding through the Disney+ series. Following the success of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are making the most of the streaming platform to tell stories that mix elements ranging from the prequels to the post Return of the Jedi era. The Disney+ shows are also being used to tie up loose ends in canon and are bringing many known faces from the animated series into live-action. While that is a bold plane, it is also a tricky one. With so much being done in series that are so short, the productions risk becoming overstuffed.
