The hit simulated sport Blaseball has been rapidly growing in popularity across the internet, and now fans will be able to play the game themselves with the announcement of a tabletop adaptation called Blaseball: The Card Game. Originally released in July of 2020, Blaseball markets itself as a baseball horror fantasy league wherein players can bet on fictional and absurd sports matches, with a great example being season 9's battle against a peanut god. In this game, players select their favorite team from the lineup and use free coins to bet on matches throughout each week-long season or even change the rules of the sport, letting fans directly shape the way each new season plays out.
Even though the game was developed by one team of people, most of the content revolving around the sport consists of fan-made creations and collaborations that influence Blaseball as a whole, an idea that has only made the game even more popular. Despite the fact that players don't actually play the Blaseball matches themselves, the site has reached a large internet audience that, thanks to the okay from developers, is free to create anything they want relating to the sport and even profit from those creations. It's that spirit of creativity that, in part, led developer The Game Band to partner with Wayfinder Games for a brand new project.
