Want to use the AI-powered Bing Chat alongside third-party Android apps? It's now possible with Microsoft's SwiftKey virtual keyboard app.
On Android, Microsoft is now integrating Bing Chat with the SwiftKey app, which Redmond acquired in 2016. “Slowly rolling out. Get yourself onto the Beta channel to taste the future,” Pedram Rezaei, CTO for mobile and commerce, tweeted(Opens in a new window) today.
However, the integration goes beyond the keyboard app. That’s because SwiftKey can be used with all third-party Android apps, including Google’s Chrome browser, Gmail, and Facebook.
All you have to do is begin typing some text in any third-party app. SwiftKey will pop up with an icon that leads to the ChatGPT-powered Bing. A window will then open on top of the Android app, allowing you to ask questions on Bing Chat. There’s also a button next to each reply, letting you copy and paste answers from the chatbot back into the third-party Android app.
The integration further expands the reach of Bing Chat when Microsoft has mainly restricted chatbot access to its Edge browser on desktop and mobile. On the downside, you’ll only get access to the SwiftKey integration if Microsoft has already invited you into the Bing Chat preview.
Access the function by downloading(Opens in a new window) the free SwiftKey for Android Beta via the Google Play Store. SwiftKey is also available for iOS, but it doesn't yet support the Bing integration.
