The first State of Play has come and gone, and some players have been disappointed by the lack of major PlayStation 5 announcements. According to rumors circulating online, Sony is holding up some big announcements for another major showcase that will begin a new phase for the company's current generation console.
During the latest episode of the Game Mess Decides podcast, Jeff Grubb talked about what is happening at Sony, revealing that the Japanese company is saving its biggest announcements for a PlayStation Showcase that will be aired before this year's E3. This showcase was supposed to come during Fall of 2022 but was eventually pushed back because developers weren't ready to show their titles. This is no longer the case, and so a massive showcase will be held around June that will herald the second phase of the PlayStation 5 console.
With almost no major game scheduled to hit the PlayStation 5 console in the second half of the year, there are no doubts that some announcements will be made in the coming months, but it will be interesting to see what this second phase will entail. With a new console revision rumored to release this September, this new phase will likely be more than just bigger and better games.
As mentioned above, yesterday's State of Play was light when it comes to major PlayStation 5 announcements, but it still provided a look at some of the most anticipated games releasing in the next couple of months, such as Street Fighter 6, the Resident Evil 4 remake and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
