Wildlight Entertainment--a new studio staffed by many devs who previously worked on Apex Legends and Titanfall--announced itself on social media.
From the Meet the Team page, Chad Grenier--who was at Respawn Entertainment for around 11 years--serves as Wildlight's studio head and game director. Grenier was the ex-game director for Apex Legends and also worked on Titanfall 1 and 2.
Hello, world! We're very excited today to announce our new game studio, Wildlight Entertainment. We've got big dreams of creating an epic shooter IP. pic.twitter.com/EjjqF3jcmA
Grenier is joined by many of his former Respawn Entertainment employees, including design director Jason McCord, lead designers Mohammad Alavi and Carlos Pineda, and many more. Alavi, according to a Bloomberg report, was attached to a now-cancelled single-player game set in the Titanfall and Apex Legends universe.
This isn't the first time a new studio has been created by former Respawn Entertainment developers. In 2020, Apex Legends executive producer Drew McCoy and lead programmer Jon Shiring left to found Gravity Well.
Respawn Entertainment and EA announced a slew of game cancellations in Feburary. As previously mentioned, EA pulled the plug on development of the single-player game codenamed Titanfall Legends. According to Jeff Grubb on an episode of Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings podcast, Titanfall Legends wasn't Titanfall 3. It reportedly would've instead featured Commissioner Kuben Blisk as a playable character with various Apex Legends characters making cameos.
The mobile Apex Legends game is also getting shut down, and the game will end on May 1.
