The player count for Battlefield 2042 has been on the decline for a good while now, and despite occasional updates, players are not being won over. The game is available on all major platforms, but only via Steam can we track the player count the most accurately.
The numbers have steadily declined in a short time to where they have even fallen behind less-publicized games made by smaller studios.
The revelation comes from a post made on Reddit made by u/flatcokezero. The graphic posted by the user shows a side-by-side comparison of the game's player count with the two previous Battlefield games. Curiously enough, the latest Battlefield title had a player count that was even lower than World War 3.
In terms of scale, World War 3 is a lot smaller than Battlefield 2042, so for it to have more active players than the much-maligned AAA game has to be shocking for DICE and EA.
It appears from these comments that fans have already given up on the game. One fan stated that the game can't be salvaged irrespective of whatever DICE or EA tries.
Previous PC versions of Battlefield games were launched exclusively on EA's Origin app. However, 2042 is available on Steam as well, and this makes the player count comparison even more skewed.
Interestingly, World War 3 reportedly does not even have servers in Asia, which has one of the largest number of gamers in the world. This makes the situation that much worse for Battlefield 2042 as it is being trumped by a game that does not even enjoy worldwide server support, pointed out u/St0lz.
And it seems World War 3 fans are certainly fine with things as they aree.
