EA has announced that four of its big legacy titles will be delisted from digital stores from the end of April. Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Mirror’s Edge are all going to be removed from April 28th, 2022. Then on December 8th the online features for all of these games will be turned off.
In a statement EA wrote, “For Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge, you can still continue playing them and use their respective offline features, such as the single player campaign. You can also read our FAQ and Service Updates for further information on the retirement of online services. While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences.”
While the Battlefield series continues to roll on the last outing of Faith was in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which released in 2016. In our review, Stefan wrote, “At its best, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a joyous flight across the rooftops of a gorgeous city, with a grace that belies the weight and impact of Faith’s movement, but DICE seem to forget this on a few occasions, dragging it down with combat that brings the free running to a halt. It’s a fantastic game at times, but just as with the utopian setting, there are problems that lie breath the surface.”
Battlefield Portal has kept the classic Battlefield games alive in some form, with content from the likes of Bad Company 2 being remastered to create custom game modes.
