British comedian and writer Barry Cryer has died aged 86. Cryer was best known for his incredible writing skills, creating material for many comedians now considered the British comedy elite. The comedian also made a name for himself in front of the camera, with a successful comedy and acting career that spanned stage, TV, and radio. The TV funnyman also had several acting gigs, mostly in cameo roles, including an appearance in Monty Python's Flying Circus alongside John Cleese, whom he would work with several times over his career.
Despite a slow start to his career, bottom-billing stage shows, Cryer's first shot at writing fame was granted to him by iconic TV presenter and satirist David Frost, who took Cryer on as a writer for The Frost Report. His career saw him work alongside many British comedy legends, from Morecambe and Wise to the Two Ronnies, and even achieved international fame working with the likes of Richard Pryor. Alongside his renowned comedy writing, Cryer had a successful career as a comedian himself, in particular, starring on the long-running radio panel show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.
