Indians no longer have access to TikTok app, which was banned back in June 2020 by the government while citing security issues, but it never stopped shining in the rest of the world. The Chinese app TikTok, has emerged as the most downloaded app as well as highest grossing app globally since the start of this year 2022, a SensorTower report confirmed.
According to the report, TikTok, including Douyin on iOS in China, continued to hold its position as the top-grossing non-game app across-the-board as well as on Apple’s App Store. Cumulatively, TikTok has generated $821 million in consumer spending this quarter across both stores. While, on Google Play Store, it got the second position as the first one is Google One, which generated nearly $250 million.
Overall, TikTok is the most downloaded app worldwide with more than 187 million app installs, the SensorTower data revealed. Looking at the Apple App Store charts, the video-based social media platform, TikTok has also recorded the maximum downloads.
While TikTok found its third spot in the Google Play charts. And the top two positions are led by the Meta-owned social media apps - Instagram and Facebook. In 2021, Facebook was the most downloaded app on Google Play, on the contrary, this year Instagram emerged as the most downloaded app in this space, which has 125.8 million first-time installs.
According to Sensor Tower, "First-time downloads across the App Store and Google Play climbed 1.1 percent Y/Y in 1Q22, reaching 36.8 billion downloads." Actually, both the app stores saw almost the same growth. The report mentioned that Apple's marketplace rose 1.2 percent year-to-year to 8.5 billion downloads while Google’s Play Store saw a growth of 1.1 percent year-to-year to 28.3
