Larian Studios recently announced a physical deluxe edition of Baldur's Gate 3 is coming for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
Priced at $79.99 and set for release in Q1 2024, the Deluxe Edition will come with two discs on the PS5 and three discs on the Xbox, with the tradeoff of the many discs being that the entire game will be fully playable from said discs. The PC edition will come with an installer and Steam key. The Deluxe Edition will only be available for purchase via the Larian online store.
In a statement released alongside the announcement, Michael Douse, Director of Publishing explained that this is how Larian sees the future of physical media:
“This experiment is what we feel the future of physical media looks like, at least for us at Larian,” said Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian. “We spent the last few months learning how to do it from scratch and put everything we learned from the Collector’s Edition into what we hope is unbeatable value for what we’re considering our standard physical version going forward. If it works out, we’ll keep doing it this way. We understand the value of physical media, and while there are clearly increasingly significant challenges when it comes to the archiving of games, we truly believe it’s worth experimenting, even if it means a fuck-ton of discs.”
So, what are you getting with the Deluxe Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3? Besides the game itself, players will receive the game’s original soundtrack (more discs!), a cloth version of the world map, two fabric patches, thirty two stickers, and an official Baldur’s Gate 3 art poster. Not too shabby for only $10 more than the Digital Deluxe edition of the game.
