Xbox finally shared a new look at Avowed, giving us a proper look at the upcoming RPG from Obsidian and a release window of 2024.
Revealed as part of today's Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, the new look showed the game's world of Eora, some gameplay, fantastical monsters, and lots and lots of magical combat. It's a style that will be very familiar to fans of Obsidian's DNA games, with first-person melee and magic battles and, of course, dual wielding. But it's all cast in the brightly colored and vibrant environments in a section of Eora called "The Living Lands".
In an Xbox Wire post, we learned more about what we just saw. The Living Lands has a variety of ecosystems, fantasy creatures, weird plants, and more. The trailer was narrated by a character named Kai, a former soldier and one of the companions who joins the player in Avowed.
Avowed was officially revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020. It's coming from Obsidian Entertainment, the reknowned RPG developer behind games like Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, Grounded, and last year's Pentiment.
We know Avowed is set in Eora, the same world as Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity franchise. We last heard rumblings about the game in 2021, where a report compared Avowed to Skyrim and Oblivion, saying the game was "deep into pre-production" at the time.
