Disney has announced release dates for a number of upcoming films, including the planned Avatar sequels from writer-director James Cameron. The next three Avatar films have been delayed by a year each, meaning the entire series should now wrap up in 2031.
Avatar 3 is now set for December 19, 2025, with Avatar 4 to follow on December 21, 2029. Avatar 5, which may end the series if it gets made, is penciled in for December 19, 2031.
Should all of this scheduling hold, the time between the original Avatar and Avatar 5 will be 22 years, Variety reminds us.
Disney also announced new release dates for the next Star Wars movies and delayed the new Avengers films. Disney brought forward the release of Deadpool 3, meanwhile, to May 2024.
Avatar: The Way of Water debuted at the end of 2022 and earned more than $2.3 billion to become the No. 3 movie all time at the box office. The original Avatar remains No. 1 with 2.92 billion.
In other Avatar news, Ubisoft's video game, Frontiers of Pandora, is set for release in December 2023.
