Ubisoft opened up their Ubisoft Forward showcase with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the original story told in the blockbusting movie franchise. The game is coming out on 7th December for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Luna
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora casts the player as a Na’vi, but gives you a rather unique back story. You weren’t brought up within Na’vi culture, but rather were an abducted Na’vi child that humans raised within their compound. When the humans left, the children were meant to be killed, but rescued by their teacher, spending 15 years in crysleep before waking up and stepping out into the wider world to explore. Then, with the RDA returning, and their leader John Mercer, you fight back against the invaders, both on land and on the back of the Ikram flying creature.
It’s an interesting background, allowing you to learn all of the Na’vi abilities and interact fully with the world, but also starting you off with an outsider and without the grounding in Na’vi culture.
The game will have new biomes, new clans and more to discover, as a new side story that exists alongside the films. In combat, you’ll have both Na’vi skills and weapons, as well as the training to use human weapons. There’s…. well, there’s a fair bit of Far Cry to some of the combat that’s shown, but then that’s all first person open world games, now.
The full game can be played in single player, or in two player online co-op.
