players looking to bring a little more real-world history into their game should check out this mod which brings a tragic landmark into the Commonwealth Wasteland. While Bethesda placed a great deal of time and effort into constructing the world of its massive post-apocalyptic RPG, there were obvious constraints which meant not everything could be true to life. Fortunately, thanks to modders with a keen understanding of the past, some iconic locations which didn't make it into the game can finally get their moment in the sun.
Such is the case with creators Tenhats and Shreddah4's «Boon Island» add-on, which is available on Nexus Mods, that adds the titular island to as a part of the «Isles of New England» location. The small landmass, which is home to a spooky lighthouse, is built to resemble the actual island that sits off the coast of Maine and includes a lore-friendly side-quest for the Sole Survivor to complete. It also features several points of «immersive repairs» so players can feel the satisfaction of bringing the lighthouse back to life.
Fallout 4 expanded on an interesting concept and put it front and center of the game, but will future games and TV series expand on it?
While the addition of Boon Island to Boston's coastline may not be entirely accurate in a geographical sense, its implementation certainly fits 's world and themes. The lighthouse is known for several signifciant tragedies, including entire shipwrecks, but perhaps the most infamous is the crash of the Nottingham Galley in 1710 which saw the entire crew marooned for three weeks as they waited to be rescued. They eventually ran out of food, resorting to cannibalism to survive.
The Nottingham Galley wreck is one of the core reasons why a lighthouse was ultimately built upon Boon Island and while nothing as severe as aforementioned wreck ever happened again, it didn't stop others from crashing into the landmass.
