Gust is embarking on a new Atelier story with Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land, and thus far, it’s looking impressive. In a new deep dive video, producer Junzo Hosoi discusses the various new systems in the RPG and how it’s evolving from previous entries for the better.
Set in the remains of the Aladissian Empire, Atelier Yumia follows the titular protagonist as she investigates her mother’s death. Alchemy is outlawed, but she still leverages it in various ways, whether it’s surmounting obstacles with magic boots or crafting items. Perhaps the most notable change is that combat is no longer turn-based but real-time.
As Hosoi notes, such change means that players can effectively survive with evasive maneuvers, even at 1 HP. It’s also possible to execute team-up attacks with other party members to deal more damage. The open-world field is also notable since Halo: Combat Evolved was taken as a reference (since it was Hosoi’s first experience with an open-world FPS).
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land launches on March 21st. It will be available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
