A new trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage has provided our first official look at the gameplay for the upcoming game. Most of the details seen in the trailer were already known--as detailed in GameSpot's Assassin's Creed Mirage preview--but this is the first time we've been able to see the game in action.
The parkour elements of Mirage look a lot like Assassin's Creed Unity, the standout for the best freerunning mechanics and movement in the series. The trailer also teases the return of black box missions and staple Assassin's Creed weapons and strategies like throwing knives, smoke bombs, and aerial assassinations. The layout of the world looks way smaller than the past few Assassin's Creed games as well.
"[Mirage] is going to be a condensed experience," Assassin's Creed Mirage art director Jean-Luc Sala told GameSpot. «It's a more focused game. The size of it is something like a Rogue or a Revelations, just to give you an idea of the scope.»
Mirage takes place prior to the last mainline game, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and sees you play as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a young street thief in Baghdad who is inducted into the Hidden Ones (the precursor to the Assassin Brotherhood). As the reincarnation of Loki, Basim also has visions of his past life, which take the shape of mystical-looking creatures.
Assassin's Creed Mirage will launch for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC on October 12.
