It looks as though the reports were accurate. Ubisoft revealed, an upcoming chapter in the series, but, unlike the trailer, this one was far more vague.

The trailer only showed the Assassin’s logo made of sticks hanging from a tree in a dark forest. No official time period or setting was given. It will be part of, though, the live-service hub for the series and is only “on the horizon,” meaning it has no official release window. Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that led and, is leading this game as well.
However, the accurate reports that revealed this game’s existence said that it took place in Europe during the Holy Roman Empire. The reports also spoke of witch trials, which this trailer implies.
