BARCELONA—After being canceled in 2020 and a couple of relatively quiet years, Mobile World Congress came back with a bang this week, and PCMag was on the ground at the Fire Gran Via to see it all.
GSMA, the global organization(Opens in a new window) that hosts the trade show, says more than 2,000 exhibitors showed up from more than 200 countries. Nearly 80,000 attendees packed the halls of the convention center to peer at phones, tablets, and a heck of a lot more, as well as to attend keynotes, panel discussions, and (our favorite) press conferences. Someone somewhere probably ate some tapas and had a glass (or two) of cava.
Industry-changing announcements were few and far between, though innovation was visible at every turn on the show floor. After spending nearly a week in Barcelona taking in as much of the show as possible, these are the upcoming products and technologies we're most excited about.
Honor is aiming high with its 2023 flagship phone, the Magic5 Pro. This high-end hardware is a gorgeous slab of metal and glass that features an oversized, circular camera module on the rear, as well as a wonderful matte finish. It has a 120Hz, 6.81-inch LTPO display that puts out 1,800 nits (peak outdoors) of brightness. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile processor with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while a 5,100mAh battery promises all-day power. The camera system features a trio of 50MP shooters with standard, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses, and it supports up to 100x zoom and lots of creative shooting modes.
