Apple's biggest splash in any given year is usually the launch of a new iPhone. A day on which those who have to have the latest model queue outside Apple stores before they've even opened, eager to hand over $1,000+ for the newest iPhone at the earliest opportunity. 2024 will be a little different, though. Apple is getting into the virtual reality game, and its first foray into that developing space launches on February 2 via the Vision Pro.
Apple revealed its Vision Pro will be released on February 2 via a press release today, confirming if you want to buy one in person, the headset will be available at its stores throughout the US. If you want to make sure you're among the first to own a Vision Pro before then, you'll be able to place pre-orders for the device starting from 9 am EST on January 19. Do bear in mind how much the Vision Pro will cost before you place your pre-order or pop into town to pick one up.
When Apple unveiled the Vision Pro last year, the lofty price was the biggest takeaway for a lot of people both in attendance and watching on at home. The headset will cost $3,499, significantly more than other VR headsets currently on the market. More or less seven times the amount of the Meta Quest 3 and the PS VR2, the latter of which also being accused of having a high price tag during its first year, although that's largely due to the lack of an accompanying game library and needing to also own a PS5 to use it.
The Apple Vision Pro won't be relying on a library of VR games, and I'm still undecided on whether that's a good or a bad thing. Unlike the PS VR 2 and Meta's headsets, the Vision Pro isn't being marketed as a device on which to play video games. Sure, you'll be able to use it to play games on Apple
