Apple takes down Wordle clones from App Store

Today Apple confirmed it has removed clones of the web browser based Wordle from its App Store.
As reported by PocketGamer.biz, the platform holder's takedowns came after a developer shared on social media how well their unlicensed copy of the game was performing on the digital storefront.
Wordle is a browser-based daily word guessing game created by Josh Wardle where users can also share their guesses and progress to social media as well.
Apple's developer guidelines specifically prohibit copycats.
"Don't simply copy the latest popular app on the App Store, or make some minor changes to another app's name or UI and pass it off as your own," the iOS maker says in its App Store documentation.
"In addition to risking an intellectual property infringement claim, it makes the App Store harder to navigate and just isn't fair to your fellow developers."
Wardle has said that currently there are no intentions to monetize the game nor to develop a mobile app.
