If you have constantly seen your social media friends posting a weird thing called “Wordle score” and wondered what is it, this is for you. Every once in a while, the Internet loves a new hype and right now, that is Wordle. It is an online word game that has captured the world’s fancy and is all the rage on Twitter, Facebook and even Instagram. People are loving it and, most importantly, loving to flaunt their scores online.

But what exactly is Wordle? Why does this name, that seemingly looks like a blatant typo, got everyone’s attention? Who can try it out? And how long will this Internet fad stay? We try to answer most of these question regarding Wordle here. And we promise not to flaunt our Wordle score for today (although it seems too tempting not to do that!).

Wordle is simply an online word game that you and anyone around the world with an internet connection can play. The game is based on the idea of guessing the correct word every day with no clues provided. The game is free to play and can be availed online.

Wordle is essentially a play on its creator’s name Wardle and “words”. The game was created by Josh Wardle, a software engineer from New York City.

Josh Wardle created Wordle for his wife Palak Shah, who loves word games. The game was originally meant to be a fun play for the couple but it caught up with the world and went viral since October 2021.

Wordle revolves around guessing a five-letter word per day. Every player gets six attempts at guessing the five-letter word of the day on a tile arrangement. After every guess, the tiles change colours to hint about the word. The tiles turn grey for letters that are not in the word, yellow for the letters that are there but in the wrong position, and green for the ones
