Apple Shortens 'Hey Siri' to Just 'Siri'
The "Hey Siri" trigger phrase will be no more with the release of iOS 17.
As Apple Insider reports(Opens in a new window), and as predicted last November, Apple confirmed during WWDC yesterday that it will drop the "Hey" and allow users to simply say "Siri" to trigger its virtual assistant. It will also be possible to issue multiple commands to Siri in succession, so there's no longer a need to summon the assistant multiple times for more complex, multi-stage actions.
Taking advantage of the shortened trigger phrase and multiple commands feature will require an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 respectively, which aren't expected to launch until September. However, you don't need to wait to upgrade. Mac users can also take advantage, but only if they are using a machine with Apple Silicon inside. The second-generation AirPods Pro will also gain access to these updates.
The shortening of the trigger phrase isn't the only reason to get excited about Apple's new mobile operating systems. In fact, there are 12 features coming to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 we can't wait to try. WatchOS 10 also has a number of interesting new features for Apple Watch owners.
