Apple products have excelled in recent years, delivering world-class performance, thanks to the development of the M1 chip. The M1, the first chip in the Apple Silicon lineup of chips, allowed Mac devices to leap far ahead of their competitors in certain areas, namely graphics performance, computing power, and storage. Since the Apple Silicon transition began, nearly every Mac product has been updated to include an M1 chip. Now, at the 2022 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced the next generation of Apple Silicon; the M2 chip.
The news about the M2 chip comes after Apple's release of the M1 Ultra, which allowed for the creation of the massively powerful Mac Studio. The M2 wasn't the only thing revealed by Apple, either. The first two Mac devices to be upgraded to the M2 were also unveiled at WWDC, with more information and availability for purchase coming soon.

According to Apple, the new M2 chip offers incredible power. With 100GB/s of memory bandwidth, an eighteen percent faster CPU, and the ability to process nearly sixteen trillion operations per second, the slim chip will boast incredible power-efficiency and computing prowess. MacOS Ventura was also announced, which will provide a new update for Apple apps on Mac, along with tools for productivity and multitasking.
The first two notebooks to include the M2 chip will be the MacBook Air and the thirteen-inch MacBook Pro. The Air has received a new fan-less design that allows it to be thinner than previous generations.
