EA is celebrating Apex Legends’ fifth anniversary with the launch of Season 20: Breakout, which went live earlier this week.
This latest season adds a new map called Thunderdome to the game’s mixtape mode. It also includes Legend Upgrades, allowing players to upgrade their Legends (ex. leveling up your armor tier) mid-match using EVO earned over the course of the fight. New EVO harvesters and caches provide additional sources of EVO.
The update has also done away with body shields in Battle Royale. Players will instead rely on Legend Armor that increases in capacity with level up. Legend Armor is fueled by Shield Cores which grant the shield’s HP. Shield Cores can be swapped (or dropped) at any time and players will now drop Shield Cores in their Death Boxes.
Ranked mode is now Ranked Reloaded which lowers the level requirement to 20 and makes significant changes to scoring to place a higher emphasis on kills over placements. This change also removes the hard cap on scoring for kills, though kills after the sixth kill made will be only worth half of their original value.
