Pokemon has been making a lot of money from trading cards for almost three decades, and slowly but surely, other series have been cottoning onto the fact the formula might work for them too. Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, and Dragon Ball are just a few of the series that have their own trading card games, and now Animal Crossing wants a slice of that pie. Trading cards based on characters and locations from Animal Crossing: New Horizons have been revealed, and they'll be here before the end of the month.
First reported by Game Watch (thanks, Siliconera), each pack of Animal Crossing trading cards will come with one card and four gummy sweets. Yes, that's right, just one card per pack, but before you turn to social media to voice your discontent, each pack will cost 110 yen, so just 75 cents. Not bad for a single card when it also comes with a handful of sweets, and I imagine Animal Crossing fans will likely buy a few packs at a time since they will be so cheap.
Animal Crossing's trading cards will be available from December 25, 2023, so a Merry Christmas for some, but not all. Like so much of the merch officially linked to Nintendo-exclusive video games, the cards will only be available in Japan, at least to begin with. No indication if the cards will ever be released outside of Japan, but as always, if they sell well enough, which I'm sure they will, you'd imagine they'll be translated and released around the world eventually. Plus, if you want them enough, there will be ways you can get your hands on them. It'll just cost you a lot more than 75 cents per pack, though.
