Emmy winner is officially reprising his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story villain role in Lucasfilm’s highly-anticipated Season 2. His casting comes after Andor star Diego Luna recently confirmed at the 2024 ACE Superhero Comic Con event that the upcoming second and final installment will feature familiar characters from the 2016 movie.
“I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize,” Luna said (via The Playlist). “There will be cool stuff. For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special.”
In Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Mendelsohn portrayed the antagonistic role of Orson Krennic, who was introduced as the Galactic Empire’s director of Advance Weapons Research. He oversaw the construction of the infamous Death Star, which is known for its capability of destroying planets.
Set five years before the events of Rogue One, Andor follows the adventures of the titular hero rebel spy during the formative years of the Rebellion. It is executive-produced by showrunner and creator Tony Gilroy, who previously directed the reshoots for Rogue One. The final season is expected to feature time jumps involving Andor’s missions for the Rebel Alliance.
The series stars franchise alums Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, and Alan Tudyk as Cassian’s droid sidekick K-2SO. They are joined by returning cast members Denise Gough as Dedra, Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, and more.
