Ding dong, the Jailer is dead. With the second part of the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid opening up this week, players got to face and defeat the final three bosses of the raid — The Lords of Dread, Rygelon, and, of course, the Jailer: the big bad of the Shadowlands. In a surprise intro cinematic, we learned that the Jailer was trying to harness the power of Azeroth through the Forge of Souls underneath Icecrown Citadel, using Azerite in his encounter.
Prelude to the Jailer FightFresh off our victory against the Dreadlords Kin'tessa and Mal'Ganis, and the dominated constellar Rygelon, we arrive in the Jailer's boss room to find him with his back turned to us. He does not seem overly concerned by our arrival, his back is turned to us as he begins to recite a speech — some of which may already seem quite familiar. We see that he is standing over a globe of Azeroth, and as he reaches out, the scene changes.
Zovaal: Can your mortal minds fathom… how long I have waited? Zovaal: Every event set in motion. Every pawn put into play.We see that the Jailer has reached into the Forge of Souls beneath Icecrown Citadel to harness the power of Azeroth, wounded and vulnerable after the events of Battle for Azeroth. As we watch, a massive Azerite beam shoots up through Icecrown, through the shattered sky. The Jailer finally turns to face us, Azerite streaming behind him, and we are reminded of the Shadowlands promotional images portraying a similar scene. The Jailer told us Death is coming for the soul of our world in the Introduction quests to the Shadowlands. Now, it seems Death has claimed it.
